Customer Wahala

Last week, I met an elderly woman in my church. She wanted me to make a bubu gown for her. In her words “line the front with pattern stones, preferably the ones that have flowery patterns. You might have to do the back also so it’ll look better.” I was happy, so I took her measurements and the yards of material she brought.

When we got to the payment point this woman vehemently refused the price I had given saying I’m a small girl and what do I know about money. I charged her 7k and she said she’ll pay me 3k, nothing more nothing less. I just laughed, packed my stuffs and carried my self out of her presence. Getting clients isn’t really the deal, but getting those who are reliable and understanding. Sometimes they forget the size of their pocket can’t and will never determine the worth of an item.

How was your first client experience?

Being a Nigerian Tailor

Being a young Nigerian Tailor is fun because you get to learn while your mind is void of stress issues and stuff. You’re constantly filled with this happiness that comes with exploration and discover. The passion for fashion at this point is on it’s highest level because even in your dreams the need to doll up to a dress you made will bug your mind till you eventually do it.

The problem however, starts when you start getting clients. At this point, you may not be able to identify potential clients from time wasters and critics because you’re out to show what you’ve got. Till they start showing you pepper hotter than the one used in Yoruba stew that’s when your mind will retrace steps and start processing things in different ways.
